Calf scours prevention and antibody protection research

How Colostrum Quality

How colostrum quality and specific antibody levels against scours-causing pathogens fall short even within well-vaccinated herds.

Researchers measured colostrum quality and specific antibody levels from cows in well-vaccinated herds to determine whether dam-level scours vaccines are providing enough protection. Results showed that only 1%, 3% and 7% of sampled cows provided colostrum that was both high in general antibodies and antibodies against coronavirus, rotavirus and E. coli pathogens, respectively.
